Windstar Lines is seeking a qualified Mechanic with 2 years experience with solid mechanical and heavy duty repair background to work on late model tour / charter bus and motorcoaches. Wage based on experience.
Job Summary:
A Diesel Technician will inspect, perform repair work, and maintain motorcoaches, autos, pick-ups, and equipment in the company’s fleet.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains vehicles and equipment, which may include but is not limited to cars, trucks, motorcoaches, tractors, trailers, skid steers, forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.
- Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to tires, lights, brakes, chassis/suspension, engines (Detroit and Cummins), Allison Transmissions, exhaust, HVAC, electrical (AC & DC), passenger safety systems, glass work, shop safety and shop maintenance.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
- Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation. (As long as properly licensed and qualified by the company.)
- Performs repairs from driver write-ups.
- Assists the parts department.
- Routine facility maintenance as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to get a job done quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Organized and detail minded.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in mechanical or industrial maintenance.
- Three or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent education and experience preferred.
- A commercial driver’s license (within 90 days of employment).
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, kneel, squat and crawl to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
- This position is very active and will require standing for much of the workday.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Work Environment:
- Work in a modern, smoke-free environment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Compensation: Will be compensated by your experience. Flexible work schedule is a possibility.
