JOB SUMMARY
The Dockmaster assumes all responsibilities for the daily operations of the property, at the direction of or in the absence of the General Manager. This employee ensures and monitors proper placement of boats in slips, assists captains in docking of vessels in marina slips, and routinely inspects and makes repairs to ensure above average appearance and condition of property, including docks, utilities, and ancillary equipment. This individual also oversees all administrative, computer and front desk functions that support daily activities at the marina.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in coordinating and assigning all long-term guests (thirty days or more) within the marina, utilizing the long-term guest check list follow through from beginning to end.
  • Maintains all documents pertaining to the fuel dock to include- Inventory management/fuel orders, proper fuel pricing, end of day fuel reports, historical fuel data sheet, daily log for testing water in fuel, monthly inspection reports, proper documentation for maintaining our Clean Vessel Act Pump out Grant.
  • Oversees and assists in coordinating reservations both long and short-term (transient) through various reservation platforms. Walks docks, performs dock checklist. Answers and responds to calls and inquiries regarding marina operations.
  • Assists and supports special events or activities taking place at the marina.
  • Operates VHF radio as necessary to contact boats and coordinate dockage, with dockhands.
  • Oversees and assists front desk and retail operations, fuel dock, maintenance, grounds, and dockhands.
  • Greets, assists, and responds to customers in a prompt and courteous manner. Communicates with potential customers professionally and effectively. Resolves any customer disputes in a manner consistent with Windward Marina Group philosophy and policy.
  • Ensures safety of customers and employees. Observes, follows, and enforces appropriate safety regulations required by OSHA and other governmental agencies as required.
  • Oversees the performance of dockhands to ensure a consistent follow through and completion of the daily and weekly check lists. Reports tasks beyond scope of capability to Marina Manager.
  • Oversees the Marina Maintenance log to ensure timely completion of all tasks listed in order of priority.
  • Berths vessels and assists Captain in hooking up shore-side power and dock lines.
  • Regularly checks dock lines.
  • Assists in enforcement of subcontractor marina policies and procedures.
  • Oversees sales in retail store, including apparel, drinks, snacks, aquatic toys, beer, and wine.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Performs other job duties, as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

  • One year of previous managerial experience, including supervision of personnel.
  • Prior experience with basic accounting, purchasing, and receiving, inventory controls and customer relations.
  • Must be able to swim and work safely around the water.
  • Ability to stand for most of the workday and work comfortably outdoors.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to board vessels from the dock or ground ladders and climb dock ramps.
  • Unlimited or unimpaired ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb, work safely on a ladder of varying heights or in confined spaces, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Previous marina operations preferred, including boat lifting, handling, and towing, knowledge of nautical terminology, and plant and equipment maintenance including lawn mower operation and hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry, plumbing, and repair.
  • Ability to exhibit proper etiquette on telephones and VHF Radio.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment to achieve goals and targets.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a flexible schedule to include working weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Basic math computation skills required.
  • Must be at least age 16 years old.
  • Eligible candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test as part of our Drug Free Workplace Program (DFWP) and background check screening.
