The Role:
The Manufacturing Planner position exists to ensure the efficient coordination and execution of production schedules within a manufacturing environment. This role plays a crucial part in translating sales orders and production goals into actionable plans for the manufacturing floor. Manufacturing planners are responsible for creating detailed production schedules, monitoring inventory levels, coordinating with various departments such as production, procurement, and logistics, and optimizing workflows to meet production targets while minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency. By maintaining accurate production plans and schedules, Manufacturing Planners help ensure timely delivery of high-quality products, streamline manufacturing processes, and contribute to overall operational excellence within the organization.
Structure:
The Manufacturing Planner and reports into the Senior Manager, Production.
Responsibility:
- To create production plans which reflect the existing production capacity taking into account materials availability, production lines, team size, team efficiency, machine capacity, work schedules and plans to adjust capacity. This includes the planning of finished assemblies as well as sub-assemblies required for finished assemblies.
- Analyze customer delivery requirements, identify capacity gaps and work with Engineering and Production to create plans to close or mitigate customer delivery gaps.
- To ensure the schedule of daily expectation is communicated to each line, Production Management, and other stakeholders such as Quality.
- To ensure the dates, quantities, and status of work orders and planning data within ERP stays current and accurate at all times to ensure Purchasing and Customer facing teams have accurate information.
- To work with Purchasing team and review material gaps on planned work orders and resolve these gaps.
- Runs Weekly Schedule Meeting and reports on performance against schedules, reviews new items which impact or add to scheduled work and works with Engineering and Production Management to adjust schedules and capacity as required.
- Use schedule to lead long term capacity reviews to plan people and resources with Production Management, Engineering and Quality.
- To release work orders daily to production modules and stay continuously up to date on production status.
- To review and close work orders when complete to ensure no operations or material variance from actual exist.
- Track, analyze and report on manufacturing delivery, efficiency metrics and work order variances
- Track, analyze and report on variances to production schedules and work with Production Management to make performance gains and to close gaps.
- Review scheduling issues to plan corrective and preventative actions associated with the planning process or systems.
- Respond to quote requests by reviewing material and schedule constraints for delivery
- Other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- A Bachelor or Diploma or Certificate with a technical discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience working as a planner for a manufacturing company.
- Good shop floor planning & scheduling abilities.
- Good Supply Management and/or Forecast / Capacity planning understanding.
- Good working knowledge of garment related machinery & equipment, and its spec and requirements.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel and other reporting tools
- Oracle Netsuite or similar ERP experience an asset.
- Ability to speak Spanish is an asset.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Educational Background: Possession of a Bachelor's, Diploma, or Certificate in a relevant technical discipline, such as Engineering, Operations, or Work Safety, ensures a foundational understanding of manufacturing principles.
Skills Requirements:
- Scheduling Proficiency: Previous experience in scheduling tasks within a manufacturing context showcases the capability to organize and coordinate production activities efficiently.
- Planning and Supply Management: Demonstrated skills in shop floor planning, scheduling, and supply management, including forecasting and capacity planning, ensure smooth and optimized production operations.
- Communication and Leadership: Strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with foster clear communication and collaboration among team members.
- Problem-Solving Aptitude: Adept problem-solving skills enable the resolution of issues that may arise during production, contributing to uninterrupted workflow and efficiency.
- Computer Proficiency: Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Excel and other reporting tools, facilitate accurate data analysis and reporting for informed decision-making.
Ability Requirements:
- ERP Experience: Familiarity with ERP systems like Oracle Netsuite enhances efficiency in managing production processes and resources.
