Description
JOB PURPOSE
The Sewing General Laborer is responsible for assisting with the sewing and assembly of products in a manufacturing or production environment. This role supports the sewing department by performing various tasks to ensure production goals are met and quality standards are maintained. Essentially, this position exists to bridge any production gap within Patten’s Sewing department, ensuring that the manufacturing processes are seamless, issues are swiftly resolved, and the final products meet the organization's standards of excellence.
STRUCTURE
This position reports to Sewing Department Lead.
RESPONSIBILITY
- Operate sewing machines to stitch fabrics and materials according to specifications.
- Assist with preparing materials and fabric for sewing, including cutting, measuring, and arranging.
- Perform basic sewing tasks, such as hemming, stitching, and assembling pieces of fabric.
- Inspect and ensure the quality of finished products, checking for defects or irregularities.
- Maintain sewing equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and reporting any issues.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines and goals.
- Participate in training and development to enhance sewing skills and product knowledge.
- Assist with other production tasks as needed.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work a full-time position with shifts based on production schedules.
- Ability to work overtime as needed including Saturdays and Sundays.
- 1 years of experience in sewing in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to trim threads, mark using templates, cut webbing, and hand type operations.
- Ability to read a tape measure and use scissors.
- Ability to operate basic sewing machines and tools.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work with multiple people simultaneously in a diverse environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work may be performed in a noisy and fast-paced environment.
- PPE (personal protective equipment) may be required.
