What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Educator position at Winnebago County Health Department?
The Health Promotion and Wellness {HPW) Public Health Educator promotes individual and population health through wellness programs focused on mental and whole person health focused on youth in collaboration with Winnebago County to improve well-being including educational attainment. The position includes assessment and policy development to programming. The Public Health Educator
(PHE) will provide trainings to instructors and facilitate evidence-based youth suicide prevention programs in Winnebago County schools, facilitate client surveys to instructors and pre/post-tests to participating students, work with the Director of Communications and Public Information Officer to develop communication campaign messaging on mental health, participate in youth leadership development, and develop a suicide prevention coalition consisting of community partners and stakeholders.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Community Health Promotion, Health Education, Mental Health or related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in public speaking and/or teaching or working with preteen and teen youth populations.
- Minimum one (1) year experience working with federal or state grant deliverables, and working knowledge of program planning, implementation, and evaluation standard practices.
- Successful completion of WCHD HIPAA and Blood Borne Pathogens Trainings.
- Successful completion of required program related trainings.
- Successful completion of the Illinois Department of Public Health's "OHP Data Security & Confidentially Training" within seven (7) days of employment.
- Must successfully complete Tier II New Staff Training within 90 days of hire.
- Must participate in assigned trainings, including on-line training in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) offered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency to obtain the following certifications:
o Within nine (9) months of employment: ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 700, and ICS 800.
o Within 18 months of employment: ICS 300 and ICS 400.
- Valid driver's license, current certificate of vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation to all assigned work locations.
