Job Purpose & Position Overview
The EPD Intern will support the Winnebago Tribe’s Environmental Protection Department as part of the GAP Internship Pilot Project. The intern will gain hands-on experience across multiple programs, including water quality, air quality, solid waste management, and GIS/GPS. Additionally, the intern will gain exposure to land conservation, infrastructure planning and sustainable development efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to tribal environmental capacity building while developing professional skills in a real-world setting.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.
- Assist in environmental data collection and analysis across various programs.
- Assist with research to support environmental initiatives in water and air quality, and solid waste management.
- Participate in solid waste management activities, including waste audits, routine pick-up, and program development.
- Engage in community outreach and educational activities to promote environmental awareness.
- Rotate through each department to gain a holistic understanding of environmental protection work.
- Prepare reports and presentations on environmental findings and project outcomes.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as directed by the Environmental Protection Department Manager.
- Provide administrative support, including organizing and maintaining records, filing documents and digitizing physical files for improved accessibility.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Current enrollment in a college or university program, preferably in environmental science, biology, natural resources or a related field.
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools
- Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to environmental stewardship efforts.

Physical Requirements:
- Normal office work which includes the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
- While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong reasoning and analysis skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Language Requirements:
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
