Office Associate/ Court Clerk
Reports To: Chief Clerk/Court Administrator

Job Purpose & Position Overview
The position will serve as the receptionist for the Tribal Court and provide clerical support as needed. The position will also serve as the Court Clerk for Civil cases and hearings.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.
- Answer all inquiries to the Tribal Court offices, both in person and over the telephone. Directs caller to the appropriate staff member for resolution.
- Greet public in a positive manner. Provides information on cases, as appropriate.
- Receive, file stamp, and forward all incoming Court documents.
- Create and maintain court files, court schedules, and docketing.
- Case types will be related to name change, marriage, civil commitments, records requests, etc.
- Responsible for all purchasing transactions and maintaining up-to-date financial records for all Tribal Court program fund accounts, including payment to vendors.
- Assist the Tribal Prosecutor and other Court staff with correspondence and/or filing as needed.
- Must be present for assigned Court hearings.
- Prepares Summons, Notice of Hearings, and other required documents to be personally served.
- Assists other Court Clerk personnel as needed inside the Courtroom.
- Provide general administrative support to all Tribal Court personnel.
- Become familiar with specific court software such as Intacct, Solid Circle, and Nebraska DHHS.
- Responsible for Court errands such as mail pickup/delivery and program needs
- May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, and holidays to take cash bonds from or for incarcerated individuals, Upkeep of Court supply inventory.
- Will maintain confidentiality of all clients records as provided by law.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Must possess a two (2) year proven work experience in a related field.
- Must be willing to obtain Tribal Court Clerk training and certification within one (1) years.
- The ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality of all client’s files as provided by the law.
- Keyboarding abilities of at least 55 WPM with accuracy.
- Proficient in the use of word processing and database software.
- Must possess the ability to work with all the personalities of people who call on the court.
- Must possess a good command of the English language, both orally and whitens.
- Must qualify to be bonded.
- Dependability not only regarding being at work and on time but also in following through on all assignments and unsupervised work projects.
- Ability to assume the duties of other clerks, as needed.
- Must follow the Court of Ethics established for all Winnebago Tribal Court Personnel.
Education Preference:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
- Associate degree, or working towards a degree is preferred

Training Requirements:
- Must possess current or be willing to obtain the Tribal Court Clerk certification within the first year of hire.
- Must be a Notary Public licensed in the State of Nebraska or be able to obtain a license within the first year of hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
- While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
Mental Requirements:
- Reading, writing, calculating

- Works with minimal to no supervision
Language Requirements:
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
- Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
Certificates, Licenses & registrations:
- All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
