Job Summary: The High School Cosmetology Teacher is responsible for providing students with high-quality instruction in cosmetology, including hair styling, skin care, nail technology, and related skills, while ensuring compliance with state license requirements. The teacher will foster a professional learning environment where students gain the technical skills, industry knowledge, and personal development necessary to pursue careers in cosmetology or related fields.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:
●Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with state and district standards for cosmetology education.
●Teach practical skills such as haircutting, styling, coloring, skincare techniques, and manicures/pedicures.
●Integrate theoretical instruction on safety, sanitation, anatomy, and cosmetology laws and ethics.
* Prepare students for state cosmetology licensure exams and certifications.
Student Support:
●Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages learning and professional development.
●Provide individualized instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
●Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback on their performance.
Classroom and Equipment Management:
●Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cosmetology lab and equipment.
●Enforce safety and sanitation regulations as outlined by the state board of cosmetology.
●Manage inventory and ensure tools and supplies are adequate for instruction.
Industry Engagement:
●Build relationships with local cosmetology businesses to establish opportunities for internships, job shadowing, and employment
for students.
●Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate them into instruction.
Administrative Duties:
●Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and license hours.
●Participate in school-wide meetings, professional development, and community events.
●Communicate with parents, guardians, and school counselors regarding student progress.
Qualifications:
Education:
●High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).
●Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetology or related field (preferred).
License and Certifications:
●Valid cosmetology license in the state of employment.
●State teaching certification or ability to obtain a CTE teaching credential in cosmetology (as required).
Experience:
●Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the cosmetology industry.
●Previous teaching or training experience is highly desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
●Strong knowledge of cosmetology techniques, products, and trends.
