0.90 FTE, 72 Hours a Pay Period
Nights, Hours between 6:45 pm - 7:15 am
Weekends: Every Third Weekend
Holidays: Every Third Holiday
Position Overview:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a health care professional who provides specified services in the Family Birth Center and Medical/Surgical Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN is active in the nursing process and collaborates with the RN to deliver quality and safe care. The LPN has an understanding of the Nursing Practice Process including assessment by the RN, planning, implementation and evaluation of the OB/GYN/Post-Partum, and/or Medical/Surgical patient which they use while providing direct care including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and family.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the RN to modify the plan of care based on the needs of the patient and reports changes in the patient's condition to the RN.
- Keeps updated on current OB/GYN/Post-Partum, and Medical/Surgical nursing practice, medications and legal issues related to patient-based services.
- Conforms to the Nurse Practice Act.
- Follows recommended infection control procedures during patient contact.
- Is constantly vigilant to the safety needs of the patient, taking necessary precautions as warranted.
- Provides safe and effective care to patients a myriad of acutely ill medical, surgical, and pediatric patients. Recognizes abnormal conditions and initiates appropriate interventions.
- May be required to float to the Intensive Care Unit as necessary.
- Documents all pertinent data in the EMR. Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly and removes from patient care area to maintain a safe environment.
- Participates in and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
- Acts as a resource to students.
- Answers patient call lights and addresses patient needs.
- Other job duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Associates Degree in Nursing
- LPN License in Minnesota
- BLS Certification
- PEARS
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training will be provided with recertification required every two years
- Trauma Training is completed in house and needs to be completed by end of orientation
- Verbalizes role in public address codes
- Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word and Outlook. Patient Information Database (Cerner)
