WINOOSKI SCHOOL DISTRICTWINOOSKI, VT 05404JOB DESCRIPTIONTITLE: School Nurse - Summer ProgramsQUALIFICATIONS: 1) Hold an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited program in nursing.2) Hold a valid license as a professional Registered Nurse (R.N.) or LPN in the State of Vermont.3) Hold a current certificate in cardiopulmonaryresuscitation (CPR).4) Hold a Vermont Department of Education LevelI or Level II license endorsed as a schoolnurse.REPORTS TO: Designated principal.JOB GOALS: The school nurse for summer programs strengthens and facilitatesthe summer programs provided by the WSD by modifying or removing health-related barriers in individual students and by promoting an optimal level ofwellness for students and staff. The nurse assumes responsibility for appropriateassessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and/or referralactivities; serves as the direct link between physicians, families, and communityagencies to assure access and continuity of health care for students; providesrelevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, complies with theState Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulationsapplicable to school nursing practice; and adheres to district policies andadministrative guidelines.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES1. Interprets the health and developmental assessment to parents, teachers,administrators, and other professionals.2. Insures follow-up of physician order, and delivers other care as needed,e.g., administration of medication.3.
Provides emergency health care services.4. Provides communicable disease control procedures and advisesadministration and/or parents regarding school exclusion andreadmittance.5. Collaborates with appropriate professionals in the evaluation andmanagement of children with physical and emotional problems.6. Makes referrals to other health care professionals as necessary.7.
Provides health counseling to students, parents and school personnel asappropriate.8. Monitors, reports, and recommends changes for safety hazards andsanitary conditions in the school environment.9. Uses health services as a means of health teaching.10. Makes or arranges for home visits, when indicated, for more effectiveidentification and management of health problems.11.
Documents child abuse and neglect cases in accordance with schoolpolicy.12. Provides in-service training for health-related issues as requested.13. Participates with administration in the process of evaluation and self-improvement.14. Maintains a professional competencies through in-service educationalactivities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.15.
