The Winnetka Park District is one of five units of local government in Winnetka. Our properties cover nearly five square miles and include 26 parks, five beaches, a boat launch, two golf courses, a tennis center, an ice arena, platform tennis courts, and athletic fields. We provide a full range of year-round recreation programs, including athletics, fitness programs, education programs, camps, and special events.
Job Description
Pay: $16.00-$17.00/hour, this is a non-exempt seasonal position
Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age. Lifeguards must be knowledgeable of preventative lifeguarding techniques, rescue skills, and first aid techniques. Must be a strong swimmer. Must have 20/30 binocular vision uncorrected or best corrected, have current American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding/Waterfront, CPR, AED and First aid certification. The District will provide certification training. The lifeguards we seek must be mature, polite, respectful, responsible, and dependable. Must possess outstanding customer service and communication skills and work well with others. The work is performed outdoors so must have the ability to work in extreme heat and other weather conditions.
Duties: Uses lifeguarding techniques including scanning with the 10/20 technique to ensure patron safety and supervision at all times. Performs or assists with rescues and other emergencies as necessary. Work may include performing CPR, use of an AED or providing first aid. Lifeguards must know the location and proper use of all safety and rescue equipment. Must attend meetings and mandatory in-service training throughout the season to maintain and improve upon all lifeguarding skills. Performs daily water chemistry tests and records the results. Enforces all beach rules with patrons, and is polite, respectful, and consistent in the enforcement of all rules. Provides excellent customer service to beach patrons by giving accurate information regarding beaches, beach programs, rules, and regulations. Promptly reports any safety, maintenance, or other problems or issues to supervisory staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
