What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Shop Supervisor - 2nd / Weekend Shift position at Winsert?
Winsert is seeking qualified candidates for a Machine Shop Supervisor. This role will lead and manage labor for the machine shop operations to ensure the daily production requirements are being met safely and efficiently to achieve company metrics / goals.
Work hours will be 2nd shift (2:00pm - 10:00pm) with future development to a weekend shift.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain acceptable quality, inventory, and profitability levels within the scope of responsibility.
- Coach, train, & influence employee behavior & development to meet company culture expectations and employee related job duties
- Accountable for meeting and reporting out shift metrics.
- Maintain proper workforce necessary to minimize costs, limit overtime and ensure Winsert complies with all safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Accountable for on-time delivery, scrap, and consumption of perishable items.
- Manage daily production flow and adhere to production and shipping schedules.
- Communicate regularly with all shift employees to maintain them informed of all pertinent issues regarding priorities, work schedules, quality issues, etc.
- Enforce Winsert policies and rules consistently.
Secondary Job Functions:
- Submit maintenance work orders.
- Conduct employee evaluations.
- Schedule and conduct shift meetings.
- Communicate with and assist other departments in the organization.
- Perform shift audits and assist in quality-related tasks.
- Participate actively in our continuous improvement (Kaizen) program.
- Purchase inventory & non-inventory supplies for Machine Shop.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have excellent time management skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills – ability to communicate effectively with all levels of authority.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Ability to adapt to changing requirements with minimal interruption of normal workflow.
- Ability to manage employee conflict and hold others accountable.
- Ability to coach and identify employee deficiencies.
- Self-motivated with a result driven approach
- Must get along well with others.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to actively move through production area to work with staff.
- Vision must be correctable to allow reading/viewing of documents and computer screen.
- Hearing must be correctable to allow extensive use of telephone and voicemail as well as participate in discussions among large groups.
- Mobility and coordination must allow for required tasks to be performed.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum high school diploma.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred.
- Formal leadership training may be provided.
- Prior training and/or experience with Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in manufacturing is preferred.
