Winsert is seeking qualified candidates for a Metallurgical - Process Engineer. This role will work extensively with the metallurgical laboratory, foundry, and customers on continuous process improvement, casting quality, and material related issues.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform process improvements to improve methods of induction melting, degassing, heat treating and pouring of castings.
- Perform failure analyses for tool steel, nickel and cobalt alloy castings to determine causes of abnormally high scrap.
- Material property measurement, in-house casting metallurgical evaluation.
- Perform process audits to maintain process control.
- Design and conduct experiments to validate incoming raw materials.
- Conduct and/or supervise shell sand, microstructure, hardness and spectro-chemical analysis testing, NDT.
- Provide input for tool steel, nickel and cobalt alloy prototype castings.
- Calibrations of foundry gauges.
Secondary Job Functions:
- Assist with corrective action activities for both internal and external customers
- Assist with process controls around new alloy production.
- Customer return analysis as required
- Measurement system analyses
- Temperature uniformity studies of heat treat ovens
- Maintaining CQ19 compliance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Data driven decision maker, knowledge and use of statistical analysis.
- Good use of problem-solving methodology (DMAIC, Plan-Do-Check-Act, etc.).
- Independent self-starter.
- Ability to multi-task while meeting tight timelines in results driven environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of iron, nickel and cobalt base alloys preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to actively move through office space to work with staff.
- Vision must be correctable to allow reading/viewing of documents and computer screen.
- Hearing must be correctable to allow extensive use of telephone and voicemail as well as participate in discussions among large groups.
- Occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
Education and Experience:
- BA or BS in engineering required, metallurgical or mechanical preferred.
- Experience in foundry engineering preferred.
