Title: School Administrator (Principal)
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Master’s degree
- Current Alabama certification in Instructional Leadership
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
- Preferably a minimum of two years of prior administrative experience
Reports To: Superintendent
Performance Responsibilities:
Instructional Management
- Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
- Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
- Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
School/Organizational Climate
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
School/Organizational Improvement
- Participate in the development of campus plans with staff, parents, and the community.
- Help the Superintendent develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and record to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
Personnel Management
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
- Oversee interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Supervise operations
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
- Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and Board Policy.
Student Management
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Personal Growth
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments.
School/Community Relations
- Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing this mission.
- Demonstrate an awareness of school/community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
