Job Summary
The Progressive Care Nurse plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care for individuals with complex medical conditions. This position involves monitoring patients who require a higher level of care than that provided in a general medical-surgical unit but do not require intensive care. The Progressive Care Nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients' vital signs and clinical status, documenting changes and reporting to the healthcare team.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including ostomy care and tube feeding.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding health management, including case management for ongoing care needs.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals in various specialties, including pediatrics, occupational health, and behavioral health, to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain accurate medical records using electronic health record systems such as Athenahealth.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices in accordance with workers' compensation law.
- Perform basic life support (BLS) as needed and participate in emergency response situations.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license in the state of practice.
- Experience or training in progressive care nursing preferred.
- Knowledge of ostomy care, tube feeding techniques, case management principles, and behavioral health practices is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with medical office operations and occupational health standards is a plus.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
