Job Summary
The Labor and Delivery Nurse plays a critical role in the care and support of women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. This position requires a compassionate and skilled nursing professional who can provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in both Level I and Level II Trauma Centers, as well as familiarity with medical documentation practices.
Duties
- Monitor the health status of mothers and newborns during labor and delivery.
- Administer medications and manage pain relief options for patients.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
- Document medical histories, vital signs, and any changes in patient conditions accurately.
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding labor processes, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Respond to emergencies promptly while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Assist in the development of individualized care plans for patients.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the maternity unit.
Skills
- Strong background in trauma medicine, particularly experience in Level I and Level II Trauma Centers.
- Proficient in medical documentation to ensure accurate patient records.
- Experience working in hospitals or nursing homes is preferred.
- Knowledge of cardiac catheterization procedures is a plus.
- Familiarity with esthetic laser treatment may be beneficial but is not required.
- Ability to provide compassionate care to individuals with disabilities and their families.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Strong critical thinking skills to assess situations quickly and make informed decisions.
