Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced healthcare environment. As a Labor and Delivery Nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to expectant mothers during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in a teaching hospital setting, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mothers and newborns.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess the health status of pregnant women during labor and delivery.
- Provide support and education to patients and their families regarding the labor process, pain management options, and newborn care.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including botulinum toxin treatment when applicable.
- Utilize neonatal ventilators effectively for newborns requiring respiratory support.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with ICD-10 coding standards.
- Collaborate with primary care providers, ER staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Assist in developing individualized care plans for patients with developmental disabilities.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices in maternal-child health.
Skills
- Strong clinical skills in labor and delivery nursing practices.
- Proficiency in using Athenahealth or similar electronic medical record systems for efficient medical documentation.
- Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively about their care options.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience or knowledge of working with patients who have developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with neonatal ventilator management is preferred but not required; training will be provided as necessary.
