FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform general housekeeping in the school system’s buildings.   Duties may also include assisting in maintaining building security or operating heavy floor cleaning equipment. Work is reviewed and supervised by a Lead Custodian, School Administration, and the Area Custodial Leader through observation and feedback.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Clean floors, walls, windows, blinds, lavatories, fixtures, and bathrooms.
• Washes windows and rugs; changes light bulbs and fixtures.
• Sweeps, mops, and dusts assigned areas.
• Moves and arranges furniture, empties trash containers, and straightens up public areas.
• Scrubs and cleans restrooms including commodes, sinks and mirrors; fills and stocks tissue, tissue, towels, and soap dispenser.
• Performs floor care to include but not limited to buffing, stripping, waxing/polishing; must be able to operate buffer.
• Removes trash from grounds and parking lotas around the maintained building.
• Replaces light bulbs and cleans fixtures as required.
• Unlocks and secures facilities as required.
• Uses tools and equipment such as vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, hammers, screw drivers; performs maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Assists in snow removal as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• General knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of buildings, grounds, and equipment used.
• Knowledge of floor care practices and procedures.
• Ability to perform floor care including stripping, waxing, and polishing of various floor types.
• Ability to identify cleaning needs and address with appropriate methods and supplies.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, school officials, other employees, and the general public.
• Ability to perform manual labor requiring continuous physical effort.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum: High School Diploma/GED and any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
• Desirable: High School Diploma/GED and one year of custodial experience including floor care responsibilities.

 Pay Grade 54 - $2,838.63 Monthly - Full Time Position - 12 Months
