This is a 50% grant funded position, funded through the end of the 2025-26 School Year. 

 

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this position is to promote and encourage parent and family engagement with

Families experiencing homelessness in WS/FCS as identified by Project HOPE – Families in Transition. The purpose is to improve school readiness, academic achievement, and graduation rates of students experiencing homelessness. The purpose is also to empower parents and families to positively impact their students learning outcomes by providing services, support, and activities to increase their knowledge and skills. This position will provide parents and families with meaningful opportunities to interact in their students’ education.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Plans, coordinates, and/or facilitates, and assesses a variety of parent family engagement activities, based on stakeholder input, such as required meetings and workshops and other evidenced based strategies aligned to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Sessions may be for all parents and families with students experiencing homelessness in the district or smaller groups specific to grade levels, subject areas, or students groups such as Students with Disabilities or English Learners. Interacts with all shelters serving students experiencing homelessness and their families to catalog needs, develop programming based on shelter demographics, and ensure students and families are aware of all upcoming district events and community happenings that are related to academic success.
  • Plans, coordinates and/or facilitates, and assesses, with the assistance of parents and families, educational opportunities specific to parent interest and student needs. Topics could include, but not limited to college and career readiness, early childhood development and reading and math curriculum use, homework strategies, FAFSA applications, bully prevention, drug and alcohol use prevention, school involvement and conferencing with school staff, and navigating communication with school staff. Creating a calendar of events in advance of offerings to families. Opportunities should be developed by incorporating the value of parent and family contributions to their students’ education as an equal partner. Individualizes communication to every student who is impacted by offerings and events that can contribute to school success such as College Night, free FAFSA application week, etc.
  • Assisting families with tangible needs, such as school supplies, school clothing, hygiene products, laundry, and other needs. Using the appropriate procedures for requesting items and PO’s and then providing required documentation such as receipts.
  • Uses date from multiple sources such as surveys (school, district and/or state) and school level evaluation data to identify and address potential barriers to parent and family participation and to assist with planning parent family engagement opportunities.
  • Fosters relationships with community networks and external partners and works collaboratively with them to provide learning opportunities that develop/enhance parent and families knowledge and skills.
  • Maintains and sustains regular communications with parents and families, in a language and format easily understood and accessible, to build home-school connections and inform parents/families of school activities and resources to support students’ learning. Develops and manages a newsletter to be distributed monthly to families with resources and opportunities in English and Spanish.
  • Ensures compliance of the district’s parent and family engagement program with all federal guidelines.
  • Maintains records and documentation of PPE activities, reports/surveys, PPE funding, and communications to parents to meet Title I or other federal components.
  • Remains up-to-date with ESSA requirements, adult learning principals, and strategies to build capacity of parents and families.
  • Provides supplemental support to the Project HOPE team by helping to identify resources and working to engage parents/families to address student needs and to help remove barriers to learning, such as attendance, academic achievement, and access to social services.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Knowledge of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ASSA), and ESEA.
  • Knowledge of various community, school, and governmental resources to assist parents and families support students’ learning and academic success.
  • Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerschool and others applicable to the work performed and various social media platforms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with parents and families with various backgrounds.
  • Ability to utilize multiple formats to promote parent family engagement.
  • Ability to identify potential barriers to parent family engagement and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both written and verbal forms (composing, editing, word choice, expressiveness, clarity) with teachers, administrators, volunteers, parents and families, and community partners.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or another related field.
  • Minimum: One year of experience working with students and families of diverse populations.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Valid Driver’s License is required.

 

Pay Grade 65 - $1,577.11 Monthly Salary -Part-Time 50% Position
