What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Mentor - Part Time position at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District?
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to promote and encourage students to attend and engage in school, reach their full potential academically, socially, and behaviorally. The trusted adults will support, guide, and motivate students to make positive changes personally and/or academically.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet individually and/or in small groups with students to establish goals.
- Meetings will occur in the school setting with a focus on attendance, behavior, academics, career exploration and social-emotional support.
- Provide support and encouragement in areas where the students are not achieving to their full potential.
- Foster professional relationships with school staff and work collaboratively with them to provide a supportive network for students.
- Participates in school-based meetings related to student needs, as appropriate, to assist in identifying solutions to assist students in reaching their goals.
- Maintains and sustains regular communication with District Student Mentoring Administrator
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with students from various backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with students and staff, in verbal and written form.
- Ability to motivate students.
- Ability to listen attentively to students.
- Ability to assist students with problem-solving and setting goals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum: High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum: One year of experience working with students and families of diverse populations
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Driver’s License is required.
Salary Range - $20/hr
Shift Type - Temporary/Part-Time, 20 hours a week
