FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:

Performs responsible unskilled housekeeping and custodial work in caring for and cleaning the school system buildings.

An employee in this class performs general housekeeping in the school system's buildings. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, supplemented by instructions under regular supervision. Tasks require continuing physical e?ort. Duties may also include assisting in maintaining building security or operating heavy ?oor cleaning equipment. Work is reviewed and supervised by the Lead Custodian through observation and feedback and also by the Principal, Assistant Principal, or other Administrator. Work is inspected and given technical assistance by the Custodial Section of the Maintenance Operations Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Clean floors, walls, windows, blinds, lavatories, fixtures, and bathrooms.
• Washes windows and rugs; changes light bulbs and fixtures.
• Sweeps, mops, and dusts assigned areas.
• Moves and arranges furniture, empties trash containers, and straightens up public areas.
• Scrubs and cleans restrooms including commodes, sinks and mirrors; fills and stocks tissue,      tissue, towels, and soap dispenser.
• Polishes and waxes ?oors; operates bu?ers.
• Performs ?oor care to include but not limited to bu?ng, stripping, and waxing/polishing.
• Replaces light bulbs and cleans fixtures as required.
• Removes trash from grounds and parking lots around the maintained building.
•  Uses tools and equipment such as vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, hammers, and screwdrivers; performs maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Assists in snow removal as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• General knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Ability to identify cleaning needs and address them with appropriate methods and supplies.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, school officials, other employees, and the general public.
• Ability to perform manual labor requiring continuous physical effort.
• Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 25 pounds
• Must be able to lift overhead.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum: High School Diploma/GED or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job, including reading, writing and basic arithmetic.

 Pay Rate - $15.00/hr
