What are the responsibilities and job description for the Minister of Children & Families position at Winter Park Baptist Church?
Winter Park Baptist Church, affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, is seeking a dynamic Minister of Children and Families to support the spiritual development of children from birth through fifth grade and equip parents as they lead their children to know Christ. This individual will inspire a sense of wonder and foster a solid spiritual foundation for our active children’s ministry through Christian education, worship, missions, music, and community outreach.
Our ideal candidate is compassionate, flexible, and accepting of all people. The Minister of Children and Families must intentionally develop close relationships with the children, parents, volunteers, church staff, and the larger church family. The Children’s Minister serves with the Children’s Team and children’s leadership groups and is accountable to the Pastor.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Work with the Children’s Team and children’s leadership groups to plan and execute activities related to children’s ministry, including weekly recurring events and special activities throughout the year
- Counsel children as they grow in their faith
- Provide support to parents in their roles as spiritual guides for their families
- Establish and maintain policies for the safety and security of children, including
- background checks of paid and volunteer workers
- Coordinate the hiring and supervision of paid childcare workers
- Provide appropriate Bible Study, discipleship, missions, and curriculum for children and
- those who teach them
- Coordinate the weekend retreats and week-long camp opportunities provided to children
- Have the ability to envision and implement new opportunities to reach out to non-church
- members in order to grow the children’s ministry of Winter Park Baptist Church
- Coordinate activities and events with Winter Park Baptist Church Preschool Director and
- may be asked to serve as a liaison
- Enlist, train, and encourage volunteers and paid workers serving in children’s ministry
- Design and manage communications and advertising children’s events to church
- members and the community
- Perform other duties as directed by the Pastor as needed
General responsibilities include:
- Assist in helping lead worship services on the occasions that children are participating in the service
- Responsibly manage financial resources and purchase supplies as needed for the children’s ministry
- Participate in training opportunities related to children’s ministry
- Devote adequate time to personal and spiritual growth
Required Qualifications:
- A strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as evidenced by spiritual maturity
- A vision for Children’s Ministry consistent with Winter Park’s mission statement
- Experience teaching children in a Christian setting
- Strong conflict management and public relations skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- University graduate, preferably with a complimentary major to enhance ministry to children
- Seminary education or equivalent experience in children and family ministry
- The ability to work a flexible schedule
