Department Summary:
Village Rentals operates as a full-service Mountain Bike Rental & Retail Operation situated in the bustling Village at Whitefish Mountain Resort. With an extensive network of downhill trails spanning over 25 miles and 2,353 vertical feet, Village Rentals is the go-to destination for gearing up for a thrilling day of mountain biking. Open seven days a week during summer operations (late May-September), the shop prides itself on providing exceptional service and equipment.
Job Summary:
The Bike Mechanic role demands meticulous attention to detail and consistency. Responsible for daily tune-ups and repairs on the rental fleet, as well as building bikes and assisting with store operations, this position plays a vital role in delivering outstanding guest experiences. Training is mandatory for first-year employees and highly recommended for returning staff.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to: Manager/Supervisor
- Employees Supervised: None
JOB SKILL SPECIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; college degree or courses in related fields preferred
- Minimum of 1 year bike mechanic experience
- Previous experience with various bike components, service tools, and machinery
- Basic computer skills
- Previous cashier/sales experience preferred
- Previous experience working directly with the public preferred
- Knowledge of the bike industry required
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Inspect, repair, and service downhill mountain bikes, including component replacement, brake bleeds, bearing installation, suspension servicing, wheel building and truing, and derailleur tuning/adjustments
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource to guests and employees
- Remain current on industry products and trends
- Follow all policies and procedures outlined in rental operation training
- Utilize RTP rental module for equipment checkout/in
- Perform basic bike repairs for rentals and walk-in guests
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Advocate for excellent guest service
- Provide feedback on buying trends and inventory needs
- Available to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings
SAFETY & WELLNESS:
All team members must remain vigilant for unsafe conditions and behaviors, conducting periodic inspections and addressing issues promptly.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moderate physical activity required, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods, up to 8 hours
- Routine bending, stooping, and lifting
- Working at a computer workstation for periods of 1-2 hours
- Working holidays, nights, and weekends is expected
- Non-smoking environment
