Job Summary:
The Bike Patrol position at Whitefish Mountain Resort is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of guests and employees in the biking area. This role involves responding to incidents, providing medical care, maintaining trail signage, promoting a safe environment, performing chairlift evacuation and technical rescues, and assisting with trail maintenance. Most duties are performed outdoors in varying alpine winter conditions.

Reports to: Patrol Manager and Assistant Patrol Manager
Employees Supervised: None
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; College education or trade education preferred
- CPR/AED certification at Basic Life Support level
- Wilderness First Aid or higher certificate required; Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), or comparable/higher medical certification preferred.
- Basic knowledge of Whitefish Mountain Resort and Summer resort operations preferred
- Advanced biking skills with the ability to bike all types of terrain in all conditions
- Basic knowledge of mountain bike repair and maintenance preferred
Job Specifications:
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and professionally
- Effective communication with guests and employees in various situations
- Accurate completion of incident forms and other documentation
- Operation of mountain bike consistent with WMR Mountain Bike policy
- Transporting patients in a rescue toboggan in various terrain
- Knowledge of chairlift operation and evacuation procedures
- Familiarity with ALERT protocols, landing zone procedures, and technical rescue equipment
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be added to WSI’s vehicle insurance policy
Specific Duties:
Patrol Operations:
- Participate in ongoing medical, technical, and evacuation training
- Trail assessment and closure based on conditions
- Identification and marking of hazards
- Inspection of vehicles and medical equipment
- Morning duties including maintaining closures, boundaries, and signage
- Speed control and guest education
- Maintain cleanliness of patrol rooms and stations
Incidents:
- Responding to all incidents/medical emergencies
- Initiating 911/ALERT communication when necessary
- Completing incident reports and collecting information
- Familiarity with medical equipment used by WMR Bike Patrol
- Participation in ongoing training
Rescue and Evacuation:
- Knowledge of evacuation procedures and rescue techniques
- Practice with rescue equipment and lift evacuation procedures
Public Relations:
- Neat appearance and wearing of uniforms
- Assisting with guest education and crowd control
- Providing courteous and helpful assistance to guests
Race, Events, and Trail Crew:
- Trail maintenance and event support
- Basic knowledge of event layout and operations
Safety & Wellness:
Continuous awareness of occupational and public hazards and reporting to appropriate supervisors
Work Environment:
- Physical demands including lifting and biking
- Work in varying weather conditions
- Required helmet use during activities
