Title: Lift Maintenance Mechanic I
Department: Lift Maintenance
Level: Full Time Regular (FTR) or Full Time Seasonal (FTS), Hourly
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Duties: The lift maintenance mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of all lifts, lift maintenance facility and related equipment and machinery. The Lift Maintenance has two workshops on Big Mountain. One is located in the Metal Shop in the Village area and the other shop is located in the “top shop” adjacent to the upper terminal of Chair 1. The majority of the work is done on each of the individual chairlifts located throughout the Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Job Specifications
• Two years of high school, trade, business school or GED equivalent.
• Minimum one year of mechanical experience required. Must understand the basic mechanical and electrical functions of machinery and equipment.
• Be comfortable working at heights up to 70 feet above the ground including towers, poles, ladders and structures making safety a priority. This work may be done alone or with other staff members.
• Must be able to operate or be trained to operate a snowmobile and/or track vehicles safely. Snowmobile operation required in varying weather to service lifts.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be authorized for WSI insurance coverage.
• Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.
• Required to have own personal hand tools: combination wrenches - 3/8 inch to 15/16 inch. Metric combination wrenches - 8mm to 19mm, 24mm, & 30mm, pliers, vise-grips, hammer, 6” & 12” crescent wrenches, screw drivers, one multi-meter capable of 600V.
• WSI provides work uniform consisting of coat, snow pants, gloves and hat. Also provides extreme cold weather coveralls. Any other cold weather gear needed will be the employees’ responsibility.
• Must be able to provide every guest with a high level of customer service at all times.
• Must be able to work within the framework of the company and department policies and procedures as set forth in the employee manuals.
Specific Duties:
• Assists with lift terminal service and adjustments, both as part of scheduled maintenance or troubleshooting/repair.
• Assists with Level II or III mechanics for line machinery service and adjustment, both as part of scheduled maintenance or troubleshooting/repair.
• Participates in any or all aspects of lift construction as directed.
• Sand, paint, refurbish lift towers or structures.
• Assists with Level II or III mechanics to rebuild machinery as part of scheduled maintenance or as troubleshooting/repair dictates.
• Have the ability to take and pass a NDT Level II certification class to perform grip testing and rebuilds.
• Perform tasks as assigned by the Lift Maintenance Manager relating to lift operations, including cleanup after each work project.
• Show ambition and incentive to learn, be involved in all aspects of lift maintenance, ask questions, and study manuals.
• Support other departments in the conduct of their duties by operating the lifts in absence of the lift operations staff.
• Complete daily documenting of lift inspections when in operation and in the work log for all repairs and maintenance completed on all lifts.
Safety
• Must adhere to and promote the safety policies and procedures relating to operating lifts and maintenance duties.
• Wears personal protective equipment and safety equipment as required by safety policies and procedures.
• Operates fire suppression equipment as required.
Safety & Wellness:
All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity
Work Environment:
• Moderate physical activity required by handling objects up to 30 to 50 pounds frequently and excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to climb lift towers on a frequent and repetitive basis under extreme weather conditions.
• Utilize proper safety harness procedures when working on elevated tower platforms.
• Ability to perform maintenance tasks in small spaces, high places and awkward body posture on a regular basis.
• Fire training, basic first-aid and CPR training will be on-going as part of this job.
• Drive company vehicles in the performance of daily duties.
• Flexibility in schedule changes on short notice is required. Overtime may be required as well with short notice.
• Job may require working nights, weekends, holidays and overtime during peak demand times.
• Outdoor work is conducted in varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature.
