We are assisting our client, SUL4R-PLUS (S4 ) with the recruitment and selection of a strategic hands-on Director of Human Resources.
Established in 2013, SUL4R-PLUS (S4 ) is one of the leading fertilizer manufacturers servicing the agricultural industry with a proven, patented Calcium Sulfate nutrient. SUL4R-PLUS recently completed construction on their newest manufacturing plant in Marissa, Illinois. Their original manufacturing plant is located in southern Louisville, and combined with the new Marissa location, S4 will become one of the largest suppliers of secondary nutrients in North America.
The Director of Human Resources (HR Director) will report to the COO and is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. This includes taking the lead on talent recruiting, training and development, and company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and application of human resources strategies across the enterprise. This role is crucial to supporting SUL4R-PLUS’s mission and fostering a positive company culture.
This position is in-person and is located in either Marissa, IL or Louisville, KY.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
- Collaborate with senior management across both plant locations to gain insight into the business objectives and strategies associated with employee relations, recruitment, retention, training programs, and company culture.
- Develop, implement, and enhance employment policies, training, and HR processes.
- Oversee or administer human resources programs, including compensation, benefits, monthly incentives, disciplinary issues, leave, the investigation into disputes, talent and performance management, morale and recognition, workplace health and safety, employee development and training.
- Assess recruitment and employment needs, and develop and implement HR practices, including hiring and talent management.
- Monitor and ensure the company’s compliance with state, federal, and local legal requirements and suggest the best practices, modifications, and reviews to maintain adherence.
- Manage job satisfaction and employee engagement initiatives.
- Assist leadership in assessing organizational structure to support growth and development.
- Nurture a positive working environment.
- Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics.
- Stay updated on the best regulatory measures, practices, and new technologies in human resource management, employment law, and talent management. Apply this knowledge to communicate changes or updates to policies, practices, and resources to senior management.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of human resources experience, with at least 5 years of management experience is preferred.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM- SCP, PHR or SPHR certifications preferred.
- Experience supporting and developing comprehensive employee training and development programs.
- Demonstrated history of driving HR efficiencies by developing processes and procedures covering the entire employee life cycle (e.g., recruitment, onboarding, management, skill enhancement, discipline, and termination).
- Proven track record of creating organization-wide compensation plans across multiple locations.
- Experience establishing creative internal recruiting strategies while leveraging third-party resources.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position including, but not be limited to the following:
- Office environment – use of office equipment including computer, telephone, copier/printer.
- Ability to sit at a computer for an extended period.
- Frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
This position has a generous salary range of $120,000 - $145,000 and offers the following benefits:
