Overview:
As part of the Missouri Wastewater Surveillance Program team, this position will facilitate a school-based fentanyl wastewater testing project. This project aims to address public health concerns related to opioid use through wastewater testing for opioids, data-driven insights, and community engagement. This Environmental Program Specialist will play a key role in building strong relationships with schools, parents, and other stakeholders while ensuring effective project execution. Preferred candidates would be located in Jefferson City MO and will work in office for the Department. This is a Full-time role, Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. Some evening or weekend hours may be required to engage with school communities and parents and will require in-state travel with possible overnight stays on occasion and may infrequently require out-of-state travel and overnight stays.

Essential Functions:
- Communication with Schools and Parents: Serve as the primary point of contact for schools and parents, providing updates, addressing concerns, and delivering clear, accessible educational materials. Monday through Friday 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. for approximately 20 hours per week
- Data Analytics and Interpretation: Oversee wastewater sample collection, collaborate with laboratories to interpret testing results, and communicate findings in actionable and understandable ways
- Program Coordination: Manage project logistics, including sampling schedules and laboratory testing, while ensuring adherence to safety standards and program protocols
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitate meetings and updates with stakeholders to ensure transparency and effective collaboration

- Community Engagement: Previous experience working in community outreach or public health initiatives
