Swim Lesson Instructor Job Description and Performance Expectations
At WAC, we emphasize water safety and fun while helping members and non-members of all ages develop their swimming skills. As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you play an important role on the Aquatics team by interacting with all clients, teaching skills and safety in the pool, increasing department revenue and participating in ongoing skill development. This is not a behind the scenes position you are on the front-line letting your personality shine and connecting with your team, club families and guests. You have the opportunity to create a memorable experience for your students.
Daily Operations
- Display a member first attitude by not only being raving fans of WAC, but also for creating raving fans; we are all responsible for attracting and retaining members.
- Be visible and interact regularly with students and members using smile, name and eye contact.
- Attend Aquatics meetings.
- Responsible for working or finding subs for committed classes, informing Team Lead with changes.
- Keep families informed of pool rules; strive to say yes whenever possible.
- Maintain cleanliness of pool area before, during and after lessons.
- Be available for regular communication with Team Members and Aquatics Team Lead.
- Follow all Aquatics department policies and procedures.
Team
- Catch children and Team Members doing things right.
- Participate in 90-day review and ongoing Team Member evaluations.
- Communicate to Team Lead all concerns, suggestions and complaints.
- Pursue ongoing personal and professional development and share what you learn with others.
- Be a team player strive to help out wherever and whenever possible.
Safety
- Own and immediately resolve pool problems to ensure member and guest safety.
- Maintain good standing for CPR certification.
- Know the Safety Plan and Emergency Action Plan.
- Follow all insurance, liability and incident report procedures; report to MOD any incidents in the pool.
- Report pool issues and broken pool equipment immediately to GM and Maintenance department.
Financial
- Regularly communicate prices and sessions status with clients.
- Accurately schedule sessions in the member relations management system to ensure correct payroll.
- Complete individual Aquatics payroll by due date and time.
Income Generation
- Encourage participation by providing promotion and registration information to clients.
- Do part to help exceed Aquatics goals both individually and department-wide.
- Up-serve or recommend additional services of interest to our members at point-of-sale.
Programming
- Sign up for upcoming programs, activities and events to increase WAC product knowledge.
- Assist in Aquatics events.
- Participate in community organizations and positive social media to actively promote club.
- Utilize the program process when creating and evaluating programs and events.
New Member Integration & Retention
- Welcome all new participants to the pool and connect them further to other programs and events.
- Utilize the 5-foot rule if you are within 5 feet of a family, engage them with a WAC greeting.
- Create memorable experiences. Have fun while engaging participants and families.
- Follow up regularly with participants and parents to ensure retention.
- Be personally committed to fitness by actively going through the retention program sessions.
