Job Title: Dietary Technician

Reports to: Food Service Manager, Camp Director

Salary and Room Board provided.

Dates of Employment: June 1st- August 17th 2024

Position Purpose: To assist the Food Service Manager in providing nutritious, well-prepared meals that are adapted to the needs and requirements of our unique camper population.

Essential Job Functions:

1) Assist in the daily operations of the camp’s food service.

  • Plan, prepare and distribute food for campers requiring specialized diets in the dining hall and on picnics.
  • Prepare foods including washing and peeling.
  • Bake breads, pastries, muffins, etc.
  • Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.
  • Store food and leftovers at proper temperature

2) Work as a member of the food service team.

  • Coordinate schedule and job tasks with other cooks and kitchen assistants.
  • Assist with supervising or directing the work of kitchen assistants.

3) Maintain an inventory of foods used in special diets and order specialized foods as necessary.

4) Work with nurses to place all campers with special diets on Input and Output sheets for record keeping sake.

5) Be present at camper registration to communicate with caregivers and campers regarding dietary concerns.

6) Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.

  • Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
  • Supervise the cleaning of prep, serving and dining hall dishes.
  • Reduce waste, reuse items and recycle as indicated through camp’s procedures.

7) Assisting with daily living skills of campers, including, but not limited to:

a. Routinely lifting 50 lbs. during transfers of campers

b. Personal care: toileting, showering, dressing, brushing teeth,

c. Following any behavioral care plans

d. Assisting with meal times to any degree of a campers’ needs.

8) Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities and motivate campers to participate in programs to their greatest ability.

9) Abide by all policies and procedures as outlined in the staff training manual.

10) Be alert to campers and fellow staff needs. Assist with health or personal problem and/or discuss with nursing staff, head counselors or camp director as necessary.

11) Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.

12) Other duties as assigned.

Other Job Duties:

  • Weekly noon/night watch duties
  • Assisting with special events
  • Contributing to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.

Relationships: Dietary Technicians often have direct working relationships and are in constant communication with the counseling staff, nursing staff and program staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Training and experience in supervising aquatics activities.
  • Desire and ability to work with people with disabilities in varied conditions.
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Organizational skills
  • Aptitude for completing reports and paperwork
  • Ability to communicate with others

Physical Aspects of the Job:

1) Be able to routinely (multiple times per day) lift and carry over 50 lbs.

2) Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures (weather, fire, etc.)

3) Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.

4) Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid (illness or injury).

5) Experience daily sun and heat exposure

Demands of the job may be such as to require you to assume duties not indicated that may be assigned by the Camp Director or person you are accountable to.

Some requirements of a Dietary Technician will include endurance such as prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking and stretching. The position requires hand-eye coordination.

Pay: $369.00 - $570.00 per week
