Introduction
Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI), located near Oshkosh Wisconsin, is looking to hire a full-time Admissions Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) to work 7:00am – 7:00pm with a rotating shift schedule. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary
As an Admissions APNP, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Evaluating new referrals and completing the medical clearance process for new admissions.
- Completing histories and physical exams on new patient admissions.
- Assisting in the Medical Clinic providing medical care as needed.
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $62.00 to $63.98 per hour (approximately between $128,900 and $133,100 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber and is in pay schedule and range 11/01.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
A TB screen will be required prior to start.
Appointee must obtain a DEA number within 3 months of hire. Please note: individuals who are required to obtain a registration in order to carry out duties in a state or federal agency are exempt from registration fees. For more information, please see DEA Registration.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Individuals preparing to graduate from an APNP program are encouraged to apply. Must be a licensed APNP within 3 months of hire.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- License or eligible for license as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certified Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) by the State of Wisconsin. Eligible means you are currently registered as a FNP certified APNP in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in WI OR you are within 3 months of graduation from a professional FNP certified APNP program. License must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
- Training or experience managing chronic medical conditions.
- Training or experience working with Electronic Health Record software for documentation and patient care.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience working with patients with mental health or substance abuse issues.
- Experience independently managing psychiatric patients in an inpatient facility.
- Experience working independently in providing medical care and medical clearance.
- Experience working with Cerner.
