Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS), Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting to fill a Correctional Captain vacancy. This position will be assigned to work 2nd (2:00 p.m. - 10:30 pm.) or 3rd (10:15 p.m. - 6:15 a.m.) shift.

Position Summary
As the Shift Captain/Commander, you are responsible for the oversight and operation of the facility, including supervision, administration and coordination of security functions of the Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC). WRC is a maximum-security treatment center which provides specialized mental health services for individuals referred from the Department of Corrections and Wisconsin Court System. Duties include:
- Overseeing the management and accountability of all residents assigned to the facility, including authorizing counts, admissions and discharges as required.
- Responding to and overseeing crisis situations including trouble calls, use of force, restraints or other required responses, conforming to WRC policy and applicable state and federal law.
- Addressing all security issues which arise on your shift in collaboration with the administration, department heads, colleagues and leading subordinate staff.
- Contributing to the developing of operating procedures and protocols for internal and perimeter security of the facility.
- Supervision of all staff on duty, and performing direct supervision functions of assigned staff
- Perform scheduling and record keeping duties as well as assigned investigations as required
- Conduct rounds of the facility throughout the shift
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $47.82 to $51.45 per hour (approximately between $99,400 and $107,000 per year). A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Supervising Officer - DHS and is in pay schedule and range 81/34.
Job Details
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:
- Experience working in a supervisory or management role (e.g., hiring, training, coaching, conducting performance evaluations, discipline, scheduling, etc.).
- Experience conducting investigations related to misconduct or workplace incidents.
- Experience responding to emergencies in a correctional, institutional, or secure residential treatment facility setting, or as a first responder.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience developing policies, procedures, handbooks, or other instructional documents.
- Experience or training working with individuals with severe and persistent mental health issues such as substance abuse and/or behavioral issues.

Additional requirements include:
- Legal ability to possess and physical ability to properly utilize firearms.
- Ability to meet the physical ability standards of this position which may include but are not limited to lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, repetitive motions of bending, twisting, reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, etc. Applicants will be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
- Ability to work a schedule that may include PM & night shifts and occasionally AM shifts. Additionally, must be able to work overtime and holidays as needed.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy ** to drive a state vehicle.
**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Minimum of two year's driving experience.
- Must be 18 years of age of older.
Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:
- Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past two years.
- An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months.
- A suspension or revocation of the driver's license within the past two years or expired driver's license.
