Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS), Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is recruiting for a temporary, (Limited Term Employment/ LTE) Custodian.

- LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position and do not lead to permanent status.
- Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.
- No more than 1039 hours may be worked in a 12-month period.
SWC is a state run, licensed and certified Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD). Position Summary
The Custodian performs general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, snow shoveling, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors to maintain the work area in a clean, sanitary condition.
Salary Information
The rate of pay will be $16.18 per hour. This position is eligible for an additional $0.80 for hours worked between 6pm to- 6am, and a weekend differential of $0.80 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/08.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 55 lbs., twisting, bending pushing and pulling. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
These positions require the ability to work in an environment that may be confined, hot and noisy. Must also be able to work outside in varying weather conditions.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- An ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early mornings or early evenings and overtime as needed.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
- Experience working with internal customers.
- Excellent communication skills.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience with custodial and/or housekeeping work.
- Experience with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Experience with safety precautions including lifting/caring and use of toxic chemicals.
- Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
