The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is currently recruiting for Food Service Assistant 1 limited-term employment (LTE) position to support the King Café team. WVHK is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O' Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Food Service Administrator, the FSA 1 - Home Exchange performs the duties associated with working in a moderate complexity cafe, bar, and gift shop that serves members and public. Duties include: provide a quality dining experience for customers, cooking and serving food, taking orders, operating a point-of-sale system, handling money, food portioning, counting inventory, general cleaning and socializing with the members. This position works as an integral part of the Home Exchange Team.
Salary Information
The pay for this position is $16.18 per hour with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
This job does not offer employee benefits.
The position is in pay schedule-pay range 03-08.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
These are flexible part-time positions that work 4-5 hours per day between the hours of 8:00am and 3:30pm. This position may work up to but no more than 20 hours per week.
LTE jobs are limited to 1,039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.
Job duties include collecting customer orders, preparing food and completing service transactions including using the point-of-sale system. Handling cash transactions is required. Employees may be required to serve beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic as ordered and customer service skills are necessary.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.
Qualifications
Minimally Qualified Applicants will:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have basic customer service skills and experience.
- Have experience working in a food service environment or equivalent.
- Have basic understanding of proper food handling and sanitation practices.
- Have experience working with a team.
Well Qualified Applicants will have:
- Extensive experience with food handling and sanitation practices.
- Team leader experience.
- Hold a ServSafe certification or equivalent.
Per Wisconsin Statute 230.26, Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments.
