SUMMARY
The Director of Home Missions Operations is responsible to the Home Missions Administrator and the Board for Home Missions (BHM) for the operations of Home Missions. This position assists the Home Missions Administrator to direct, coordinate, and carry out the mission and vision of Home Missions. This includes supporting the District Mission Boards (DMB), Campus Ministry, Mission Counselors, mission congregations, and ministry partners. This also includes implementing and managing operational policies/procedures and finances for Home Missions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out his duties under and in cooperation with the Home Missions Administrator.
- Oversee the business and financial matters of Home Missions.
- Work with the Administrator and mission support staff to ensure we effectively and efficiently serve, train, and equip our DMB members, Mission Counselors, and missions.
- Work with the Home Missions Administrator and supervisor of the mission support staff (currently the Director of World Missions Operations) in hiring, training, directing, reviewing, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving staff issues.
- Develop, improve, and implement operational and personnel policies and procedures within Home Missions that comply with Federal and State laws and are consistent with Scriptural principles.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources and Financial Services departments to manage and coordinate compensation, expense, and budget-related aspects of the synod’s mission program.
- Serve as an advisor and informational resource representative to appropriate partner synodical administrative units (including the WELS Church Extension Fund Board of Directors and Joint Mission Council).

- Spiritually mature, able to serve in behind-the-scenes ministry that isn’t always pretty.
- A deep commitment to the cause of outreach and the synod’s mission to reach the lost.
- Excellent organizational, project management and time-management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate tasks and manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Holds others accountable and is willing to be held accountable.
- Detail oriented and analytical, with strong proficiency in reading, creating, and interpreting budgets, spreadsheets, and financial reports to support ministry work and ensure financial accuracy.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well with staff and all our ministry partners.
- Candidate must be a self-starter who is able to work collaboratively across departments and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Ability to set and prioritize goals and achieve them as scheduled.
- Flexibility to adjust to rapidly changing requirements and schedules.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft programs (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and understanding of modern productivity for greater operational effectiveness.
- A willingness to pursue additional training and to remain current in the fields of knowledge that pertain to this position.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum of ten years of professional experience, with demonstrated expertise in managing business operations. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus. Proven exposure to real estate markets and experience with financing structures. Exposure to nonprofit or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
