Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI), located in Oshkosh Wisconsin, within DHS is recruiting to fill multiple Limited Term Employment (LTE) CNA positions, also known as Psychiatric Care Technician Advanced (PCT-A). WMHI is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Review information about Limited Term Employment (LTE) with the State of Wisconsin here . Note that:

  • LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position, and do not lead to permanent status.

  • Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.

  • No more than 1039 hours may be worked within a 12-month period.

Now hiring positions with a tentative start date of April 21, 2025.

Please note that the first 3 weeks of employment will consist of training. Time off will not be approved during this 3-week training period. Employees must be available to train/work for 40 hours per week Monday-Friday from 6:30 am 3 pm from April 21st, 2025 through May 9 th , 2025.

Available shift: PM (2:30 pm – 11 pm)

These are not Pro Re Nata (PRN) positions. These positions will work every other weekend in addition to three 8-hour shifts, for a total of 5 shifts, within a two-week pay period.

Position Summary

As a PCT-A you will be responsible for:

  • Implementing Individualized Treatment Plans.

  • Monitoring and observing patient conditions.

  • Maintaining patient records.

  • Maintaining the safety of the personnel and patients.

  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment.

  • Participating as a team member in patient treatment planning.

  • Assisting with orientating new patients and staff.

  • Utilizing Crisis Prevention and Management (CPM) techniques when verbal or physical intervention is required to protect patient from injury to self, others, or the destruction of property.

Ongoing training/education related to patient care will be provided.

Salary Information

Pay is $35.29 per hour .

  • Night differential is an additional $0.80/hour and weekend differential is an additional $.80/hour.

  • These positions are in the Psychiatric Care Technician – Advanced classification and in pay schedule and range is 05/32.

Individuals must be able to lift 50 pounds several times a day. In addition, individuals need to have the ability to perform complex motor skills and use specialized equipment. Prior to beginning employment, candidates must pass a pre-employment health assessment and pre-employment physical ability and agility screening which could include tasks such as running, lifting, and kneeling.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Active Wisconsin (WI) CNA licensure.

    • Applicants holding an active CNA certification in good standing from another state may be able to transfer CNA certification to WI via reciprocity. The application is available on the WI Nurse Aid Program website . WI certification must be obtained by the start of employment.

  • Must be a Wisconsin Resident.

  • Ability to commit to an initial full 3-week training program (40 hours/week from 6:30 am – 3 pm).

  • Ability to work every other weekend (Saturday–Sunday) and available to be scheduled for three additional weekday shifts (Monday–Friday) on any day within a 2-week pay period.

Well-qualified applicants will also have the following:

  • Experience working with mental health patients.
