Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is recruiting for a full-time Occupational Therapist. This position will typically work Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CWC provides short-term and long-term residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential. CWC is located at 317 Knutson Drive on the north side of Madison.

Position Summary
As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide direct occupational therapy services to individuals residing at CWC who are intellectually disabled, developmentally disabled, or have experienced traumatic injuries or environmental insults. You will:
- Provide the full array of occupational therapy (OT) services to individuals of all ages with various diagnoses and types of disabilities.
- Demonstrate advanced level clinical occupational therapy skills, specializing in adults with developmental disabilities, with emphasis on enhancing an individual’s fine motor skills, eating, and activities of daily living (ADL).
- Participate with the interdisciplinary team, unit, and department staff, assisting with the training of CWC professional and para-professional staff, occupational therapy students, providing assistance with information and training to community personnel, and providing therapy services for the "Work Injury Management Program".
Salary Information
The starting salary is $39.00 to $44.21/hour (approximately $81,100 to $92,000 annually), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are in pay schedule and range 11/03.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by CWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for these positions, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have both of the following:
- Certification or eligible for certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) . Applicant must be certified within 3 months of hire.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services . Applicant must be licensed within 3 months of hire.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Experience providing occupational therapy treatment and developing treatment plans such as social skills, cognitive and functional deficits, ADLs, sensory processing needs, etc.
