Introduction

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) located near Oshkosh, Wisconsin , is looking to hire multiple Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers (APNP) to work Monday to Friday between 8:00am - 4:30pm. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary

As a Psychiatric APNP, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Providing direct medical and psychiatric services to patients of WMHI in accordance with established institution policy, treatment methods, goals of patients and unit policy.

  • Performing psychiatric exams.

  • Prescribing medications and treatments.

  • Providing psychiatric consultation with patient and family.

  • Participating in and/or conducting in-service meetings, staffings, case conference; and physical health assessments.

Salary Information

Starting annual salary* is approximately $153,800, plus excellent benefits.

  • *Salary includes $10.00 /hour add-on for Psychiatric Certification.

  • 12-month probationary period is required. Pay schedule and range is 11/01.

  • Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

A TB screen will be required prior to start, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

Appointees must obtain a DEA number within 3 months of hire. Please note individuals who are required to obtain a registration in order to carry out duties in a state or federal agency are exempt from registration fees.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Individuals preparing to graduate from Psychiatric NP program are encouraged to apply. Must be a licensed APNP within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • License or eligible for license as an APNP with an emphasis in psychiatric/mental health by the State of Wisconsin. Eligible includes currently registered as an APNP in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in WI OR you are within 3 months of graduation from a professional APNP program with an emphasis in psychiatric/ mental health. L icense must be obtained by time of hire.

  • Training and/or experience completing psychiatric assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with patients with mental health and substance abuse issues.

  • Ability to function independently in managing psychiatric patients in an inpatient facility.

  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record software (e.g. Cerner, Epic, etc.).
