Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing high-volume, high-quality, safe spay/neuter surgeries for public animals
  • Ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical processes from check in to discharge, including follow up
  • Vaccinating animals and providing quality medical screenings
  • Monitoring the daily health of client animals
  • Providing medical information to clients and answer questions as needed
  • Train and support any WHS team members in all aspects of patient care and efficient/safe clinic practices, while maintaining a professional and positive approach
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Schedule

  • DVM degree and license required; high volume spay/neuter experience required.

  • Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds
  • Our clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.  Relief veterinarian schedule/hours variable depending on candidate availability and clinic needs.
  •  Pay commensurate with experience.

About Us

The Wisconsin Humane Society is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin.  Founded in 1879, WHS operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, youth and outreach programs, veterinary resources for the community, retail stores, volunteer programs, and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the state's busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.  WHS maintains a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
