What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Reserve Officer (Non Sworn) position at Wisconsin State Fair Park?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Reserve Police Officer may be called upon to assist in maintaining the preservation of public peace, safety, and good order within the Wisconsin State Fair Park. The Reserve Officer also performs special assignments to include assisting sworn personnel, the Mounted Unit, Police Information Booths, Booking Officers, security checkpoints, and other duties assigned under the direction of police supervisors.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
This position is an unclassified, Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system. Annual hours worked in this position will not exceed 1039 hours.
COMPENSATION:
The starting wage for this role will be $18.50 per hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist sworn law enforcement personnel as directed
- Provides assistance to the public in emergency and non-emergency situations
- Takes appropriate action on matters affecting public safety
- Performs specialized assignments and duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or designee
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Able to work cooperatively and harmoniously with the public and others
- Interact courteously with all levels of supervision
- Ability to understand and apply department protocols that are applicable to the position
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Proficiency in the use and maintenance of equipment applicable to the position
- Ability to successfully complete all mandatory training requirements applicable to position.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a citizen of the State of Wisconsin
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- No felony convictions, unless fully pardoned
- Free from physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect performance of duties as a Reserve Police Officer
- Be of good moral character
- Pass a background investigation conducted by the Police Department annually
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Regular: Standing, bending, use of both hands, arms and legs, simultaneous mental/muscular coordination, oral communication, hearing, near and far vision, depth perception, color identification, feeling, twisting and pressure involving wrists, arms and hands.
- Frequent: Walking, climbing stairs, balancing, reaching, repetitive finger movements.
- Occasional: Moderate and light lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling.
- Be able to endure exposure to extreme heat and limited cold, loud noises, dusty conditions, unsanitary conditions, and possible blood borne exposure.
- Be able to perform duties in an outdoor setting including all weather conditions.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.
