Independent Contractor: Pet Sitter/Dog Walker

WiseDog Pet Care
Clermont, FL Full Time
POSTED ON 4/22/2025

WiseDog Pet Care seeks an attentive, reliable pet professional to join our pets-are-family community. We are a professional in-home pet sitting & dog walking business servicing Clermont (north), Minneola, Montverde & Groveland, Florida. Applicants MUST be 18, have a heart for pets of all sizes and dispositions, be willing to exceed our clients’ expectations, and promote the well-being of the pets in your care.

Because this is an Independent Contractor position, we are only considering applicants with a resume that reflects experience in the pet industry (e.g., vet office, grooming, boarding, rescue work, training, previous professional pet sitting, pet retail, etc.).

As this is an Independent Contractor position. You will be paid per job completed, not hourly. This is very part-time work as our schedule is ever-changing based on our clients’ schedules and needs. This means you may not work every day. It also means we are looking for an individual willing to care for pets during one of our shifts between 6 a.m. and 8:00 p.m, as well as weekends, holidays, and possible extended stays.

What will YOU be doing? This is an active job. When you’re not driving between pet sits, you are implementing a care routine, within a time frame, for our furry clients in their homes. Our level of care goes beyond the basic feed, water, play, and potty time.

  • You must be comfortable working with big or small, shy, fearful, rambunctious, elderly, and medically needy pets in various environments and weather conditions.
  • In addition to following the pet’s care plan, which may include oral medication, you will also clean up after the pet, whether it be food, water, or potty accidents and dispose of the matter as instructed.
  • Additionally, we bring in mail/packages, water plants, take out trash, and maintain the home’s cleanliness, where the pet’s care is concerned.
  • Our #1 goal is to provide our clients with peace of mind, therefore, following each visit, you will be required to promptly send a report to the client that includes visit details and picture evidence of happy pets and a job well done.

Qualified individuals MUST HAVE:

  • Pet care industry-related experience.
  • Your own reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a willingness to commute and work in all types of weather.
  • Dependability (pets and their people are relying on you!)
  • Live within our service area (north Clermont, Minneola, Montverde, or Groveland).
  • A smartphone and the ability to use apps.
  • Professional communication skills, verbal and written, with prompt attention to returning emails, phone calls, and text messages.
  • An observant, detailed approach to following instructions and the critical thinking skills to problem-solve on the job.
  • An eagerness to learn new things
  • Be knowledgeable and apply Fear Free principles in your care of our furry clients
  • No problem passing a criminal background check
  • Can provide 2 professional references

You may LIKE this type of work if you,

  • Truly love interacting with all kinds of pets
  • Do not need a steady paycheck, just some supplemental income
  • Have a flexible schedule
  • Can work holidays
  • Have a positive, can-do, lend-a-hand attitude
  • Like to work independently, without hand-holding, but aren’t afraid to ask for help
  • Are highly organized and task-oriented
  • Are very observant and appreciate details.
  • Respect the importance of sharing information promptly
  • Take ownership of your work and accountability for your actions
  • Adapt very well to changes on the go
  • Can juggle lots of moving pieces while staying focused and collected
  • Don’t mind getting dirty, sweaty, and stinky while caring for our furry clients.
  • Are a problem-solver, not a problem-maker

You will NOT like this type of work if you,

  • Need a steady schedule and paycheck
  • Have a lot going on already and don’t have the time, patience, and focus needed to do a quality job all the time
  • Have limited availability
  • Frequently need to change your schedule at the last minute due to other responsibilities
  • Get distracted easily or flustered by change or unexpected situations
  • Don't like following instructions or are afraid to ask questions when you don't understand
  • Tend to complain and focus on what is wrong
  • Think this is an easy job, playing with dogs and cats, and don’t like getting dirty, sweaty, slobbery, and overall stinky while caring for pets.
  • Do like caring for the pets, but don’t like communicating with humans.
