Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Analytics Data Analyst is part of the team that leads Eskenazi’s data knowledge and development. The Analytics Department provides Eskenazi with reporting within Epic, and other business intelligence tools, and champions data driven decision making. The Data Analyst is a vital part of the Analytics team, providing data visualizations, assisting Business Intelligence Developers with developing key performance indicators, and operational metrics. The Data Analyst partners with both the Inpatient and Outpatient Quality teams to assist with any analysis in quality measures. The Data Analyst will often be the face of the Analytics department, working to instill innovative ways to view data and make data driven decisions. A successful Data Analyst enjoys creating visualizations, looking for trends with data, and helping others understand data.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi values of P.R.I.D.E. (Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence)
  • Develop reports, components, dashboards, and SlicerDicer sessions in Epic.
  • Develop reports and dashboards in additional business intelligence tools.
  • Collaborates with team members to assist with departmental projects, or user requests.
  • Actively takes part in daily stand-ups.
  • Engages fully in the departmental peer review process and adheres to all department policies and procedures relating to building reports.
  • Meets with end users to discuss requests and provide guidance on the best way to measure their key performance indicators.
  • Develop dashboard mock-ups that can be used by the Data Analyst and the Business Intelligence Developer to understand all metrics that need to be created to meet the requester’s needs.
  • Promote business intelligence tools to end users and note deficiencies in data models for the Business Intelligence Developers can correct and improve the self-service reporting tools.
  • Supports data quality and data stewardship initiatives.
  • Trains end users in using reporting tools and data literacy.
  • Mentors Tier I and Tier II Data Analysts and assists when they have problems.
  • Presents data analysis results to end users by using the data to tell the story.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required, preferably in healthcare or business-related field, Masters preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience at Eskenazi, with at least 1 year in the Analytics department.
  • At least 3 years’ experience with data analysis.
  • Experience with data governance and data stewardship projects is preferred.
  • Experience with Epic, including current Epic certifications is highly preferred.
  • At least one year’s experience with data analysis is required, experience in the healthcare industry is highly preferred.
  • Epic Cogito Fundamentals and Cogito Administration Certifications are required.
  • At least one additional Epic reporting-related certification or badge is required. This could include, but is not limited to Clarity Data Model, Caboodle Data Model, or Clinical Data Model.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, or other business intelligence tools (outside of Excel) is preferred and required if candidate does not have Epic Cogito certifications. Eskenazi currently utilizes Power BI and SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Foundational knowledge of database structures is required.
  • Ability to read and write SQL code is required.
  • The ability to write in another coding language, such as DAX, VBA, R, Python, is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep understanding of Eskenazi Health or healthcare clinical and operational workflows in general.
  • Ability to lead meetings with users of varying technical and data understanding.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to probe for information about the underlying needs for a report request.
  • Ability to analyse data and assist with identifying ways to measure key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill with Eskenazi business intelligence software and promotes continued learning.
  • Actively promotes business intelligence software within Eskenazi Health.
  • Serves as a resource for the applications and with IS team members across applications
