What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer Coordinator position at Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance?
This position requires a competent Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, manage, and train volunteers to help at the Allegan County Animal Shelter (Allegan, MI), The Wishbone House (Douglas, MI), and Wishbone events (Allegan County). You will be responsible for allocating responsibilities and retaining the best people. You should know how to distinguish talent and do everything possible to motivate and inspire our volunteer base. You must possess excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experience. The goal is to ensure that our organization is always staffed with the best and most reliable individuals and that they are correctly utilized to fulfill our mission. This role reports to the Wishbone Programs Manager.
Responsibilities
- Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques, such as networking, events, and social media.
- Screen volunteer applications, collecting information on availability, interests, and skills
- Onboard and train new volunteers; arrange additional training as needed
- Manage volunteer database, keeping detailed records of volunteers’ information and assignments
- Create schedules for everyday volunteer opportunities
- Engage volunteers with regular communication; ensure volunteers are satisfied and well-placed
- Assign responsibilities to volunteers well-suited for special events
- Attend events as needed to onboard new volunteers
- Coordinate teams of volunteers for large-scale actions
- Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
- Share information for upcoming actions and events
- Collaborate with Allegan County Animal Shelter and The Wishbone House employees to schedule additional volunteers as needed and ensure volunteers are following protocol.
- Εnsure the purpose of the organization and its actions are clearly communicated
- Work closely with the Wishbone Programs Manager, providing regular updates of desired metrics.
