Position Title:       Mountain Park Summer Guide/Attendant Level 1, 2 and 3        

Department:        Mountain Park

Reports To:          Mountain Park Manager

Status:                 Full-time or Part-time Seasonal, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Working Hours:   Varied hours/shifts, fluctuates with time of season, weekends and holidays typical

Wage:                  $17.00 per hour 

Benefits:          Maryland Accrued Sick time/401k/Recreational Privileges

Position Summary:  Assisting guests in navigating through Mountain Park summer activities, including zip line courses, pontoon tours, state park water craft rentals, miniature golf course, photo sales, archery, mountain coaster and scenic chairlift.  Maintaining equipment and assisting guests by safely selecting, fitting and issuing related gear according to manufacturer’s specifications.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

Wisp Resort is a four-season ski, golf and recreational destination resort.  Because of the nature of the resort business, employees may be asked to perform other duties outside of the job description.  Also, hours of operation are 24/7 including weekends and holidays.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 1 – NE01        

    Makes daily safety inspections on course(s), equipment and tool accompanied by documentation.

    Provides guests information on rental equipment use and safety.

    Exhibits knowledge of Mountain Park activities and related equipment.

    Assists in selling Mountain Park activities and related Wisp Resort services.

    Follows the lead of the Mountain Park Manager and Supervisors.

    Exhibits confidence and physical ability to handle guests and themselves, and adjust to unusual situations.

    Understands and properly utilizes equipment for guests and staff.

    Double checks guests’ equipment and gear, having a trained eye for the proper fitting and connection of gear, as well as having a detailed eye to assess equipment wear. 

    Works well independently and with a team, to promote the best practices for the activities. 

    Understands and follows closely all safety regulations and standards.

    Exhibits ability to recognize and tactfully deal with unsafe guest behavior.

    Exhibits awareness of potential hazards and situations that could compromise the activity, communicates with the Mountain Park Manager and makes appropriate adjustments.

    Exhibits ability to be guest service oriented and to communicate well and confidently with the public.

    Assists with Mountain Park maintenance and other jobs as needed.


Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Cashier    

    Performs ticket selling duties.

    Assists with answering phone calls.

    Handles large amounts of cash, maintains sufficient amounts of cash in the cash drawer and has the ability to balance cash transaction report daily.


Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Mountain Coaster

    Loading and securing sleds to track and unloading sleds from track for overnight storage.

    Conducts daily speed test runs.

    Checks and clears track/walkways of debris, ice and snow when needed.

    Clears stopped or malfunctioning sleds from track.

    Attends ‘Loading Riders’ by punching tickets and explaining rules/operating instructions.

    Attends ‘Top Station’ by checking each rider’s seatbelt, instructing riders of riding procedures and communicating with ‘Mid Station’ via radio when a slow rider is on track.

    Attends ‘Mid Station’ by monitoring riders on the track and communicating via radio to ‘Top Station’ when a slow rider is on track.

    Attends ‘Unloading Riders’ by instructing riders of unloading procedures and assisting riders who need help exiting the Coaster Car.


Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Scenic Chairlift Operator    

    Participates in chairlift operation and safety specific training prior to starting work, focusing on job functions at both the loading and unloading stations of one or more lifts.  Also participates in chairlift evacuation training exercise and actual chairlift evacuations, if necessary.

    As situations may require, gives verbal reminders/warnings to guests who do not abide by the Rules of Conduct in the loading and unloading areas as well as on the chairlift.

    Checking lift tickets of guests and maintaining orderly crowd control in lift maze.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 2 – NE02    

    All duties and responsibilities of a Level 1 Mountain Park Summer Guide/Attendant.        

    Has previously worked as a guide/attendant for a full season at Wisp Resort.

    Exhibits knowledge of procedures and safety requirements to be able to mentor Level 1 Mountain Park Summer Guide/Attendants.        

    Exhibits thorough knowledge of all activity maintenance procedures. 

    Assists with and maintains inventory of mountain bike tuning related supplies and orders new supplies as needed.

    Attends scheduled training sessions, maintains a clean work environment and performs online training and certifications as required.


Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Cashier    

    Reviews, verifies, and processes vouchers.

    Assists with solving problems, with ticket exchanges, returns, lost tickets, etc.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 3 – NE03

    All duties and responsibilities of a Level 1 and a Level 2 Mountain Park Summer Guide/Attendant.        

    Exhibits knowledge of procedures and safety requirements to be able to assist in training.

    Exhibits knowledge of procedures and safety requirements to be able to assist in monthly inspections.

    Assists with checking over all daily logs.

    Assists with monthly training and logs. 


Qualifications:

Successful execution of this job requires an individual to satisfactorily perform each essential duty.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  


Education and/or Experience:

    High School diploma or equivalent, unless company sees capability without minimum education requirement

    Previous canopy tour guide experience helpful, but not required


Language Skills:

    Basic English


Mathematical Skills:

    Basic math


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    Maryland Boaters Safety Card (Pontoon Tour Guide) 

    CPR/ First Aid (percentage of total staff)

    Bike Technician Certifications (Bike Tech)

    Archery Safety Course (percentage of staff)
