Wissahickon Brewing Company is an award-winning (Philadelphia Inquirer Best Brewery 2024, World Beer Cup 2022, Philadelphia Magazine Best of Philly 2019), family-owned and operated brewery with a passion for crafting world-class beverages and creating welcoming, vibrant community spaces. Our production facility and original taproom is located in East Falls, Philadelphia where we brew 2,000 bbl of beer and hard cider. Our newest location is located in Olde Kensington, Philadelphia, and will feature a taproom, complementary kitchen, Wirlybird Coffee shop, and kombucha production facility.
Brewer Position Overview
Wissahickon Brewing Company is looking to add an experienced brewer to its production team. Responsibilities will include a combination of brewing, cellaring, and packaging. Work schedule will be 1st shift Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday; if necessary, we will consider a Monday-Friday schedule on a case by case basis. Full time compensation includes salary, health benefits (medical, vision, and dental), and 12 days PTO. Salary will be based on candidate's experience.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to execute all hot side wort production duties including milling, mashing, lautering, wort boiling, cooling and transferring on a manual 2 vessel 15-barrel system.
- Perform routine analytical tests throughout the brewing process in accordance with quality control standard operating procedures.
- Execute daily cellaring duties including but not limited to clean in place procedures, dry hopping, fruiting, transferring brite beer, carbonating brite beer, and kegging.
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of the brewhouse and cellar.
- Assist Head brewer with yeast management (Yeast cropping, cell counts, pitch rates, and generation tracking).
- Monitor fermentation data and make corrections based on critical control points.
- Work with all production employees to maintain raw ingredient and finished product inventories and FIFO procedures.
- Periodically assist with canning runs (depalitizing cans and pack-out).
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 - 2 years of previous production brewing experience in a brewery producing more than 1,000 bbls a year.
- Must have a flexible work schedule.
- Preferably possess a formal brewing degree or diploma from accredited institutions.
- Understanding of theoretical brewing science and alcoholic fermentation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with a team in order to maintain an efficient workflow.
- Must be capable of repeatedly lifting up to 165 pounds on a daily basis.
- Safely handle and utilize chemicals in accordance with standard operating procedures.
