Position: Part-Time, Hybrid Administrative Assistant and Fashion Design Professor


Position Overview:

Witness to Mass Incarceration is seeking a skilled and passionate individual to join our team in a part-time hybrid role that combines administrative support with fashion design instruction. This position directly supports our Founder/Executive Director & the Director of Fashion Programming and will involve collaborating on the development of new classes and future courses. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering formerly incarcerated individuals and LGBTQ individuals through advocacy, reentry support, and community engagement.


In addition to providing administrative assistance, you will teach fashion design to system-impacted students, focusing on cultivating creativity, technical skills, and critical thinking. The role requires fluency in both English and Spanish, as effective communication with diverse student populations and community members is essential.


Key Responsibilities:


Administrative Assistant Duties:

  • Provide advanced administrative support, including drafting, signing, and releasing routine but somewhat complex correspondence.
  • Relieve management of administrative tasks by gathering, compiling, and reporting relevant information for the department.
  • Coordinate communication between the Founder, Director of Fashion Programming, staff, interns, and board members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage executives' calendars and coordinate travel arrangements.
  • Assist with client and community interactions, handling sensitive information with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Perform general office management tasks, including maintaining records and preparing reports.


Fashion Design Professor Duties:

  • Teach fashion design courses, covering areas such as design theory, garment construction, and digital fashion techniques.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fashion Programming to develop course syllabi and ensure they align with program objectives.
  • Create and deliver engaging lectures, assignments, and discussions to promote student success in both practical skills and conceptual understanding.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and support students in achieving learning outcomes.
  • Maintain an inclusive and dynamic classroom environment that caters to students from diverse backgrounds, fostering creativity and academic achievement.


Collaboration and Program Development:

  • Work closely with the Director of Fashion Programming to design new courses and refine existing curricula.
  • Contribute to the development of future fashion programming initiatives that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Participate in strategic planning and team meetings to enhance the educational experience for students and further the nonprofit’s objectives.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of administrative experience, preferably in an executive assistant or similar role within a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience working within or alongside nonprofit organizations focused on social justice, reentry, or mass incarceration.
  • Strong teaching experience, preferably in fashion design or related fields.
  • A degree in fashion design is preferred.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to ensure effective communication with a diverse community.
  • Expertise in relevant software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), and Clo3D.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated commitment to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments for students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Experience working with marginalized groups, particularly those with lived experiences of incarceration.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with individuals from various backgrounds.
