Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Manager of Driver Training, you will assist in planning, preparing, and implementing lessons for new driver training and in-service programs.
Essential Job Functions
- Communicate with the Manager of Driver Training on any issues
- Assist in the implementation of lessons
- Bump docks, yard skills, pre-trip/post-trip inspection, drop and hook procedures
- Track student progress using the Daily Activity Report
- Evaluate student development on driving using Road Report and Range Report
- Conduct behind-the-wheel training theory, BTW range, and BTW public roads with students
- Educate, train, and orient new drivers on procedures for proper inspection and safe operation of vehicles
- Evaluate the driving skills of students by conducting road tests
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
- Conduct ride-alongs with drivers to develop/improve driving skills
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must have a valid class A CDL
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience as a licensed tractor-trailer driver
- Must have a good driving record (MVR), meet state requirements and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Must have extensive knowledge of state and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Effectively use Word, Outlook, and any other necessary software to communicate with students and co-workers
- Excellent communication skills
- Preferred evidence of teacher/instructional skills, such as formal training, in-service education, or teaching experience
- Public speaking and solid presentation skills
- Ability to endure the elements year around in all weather conditions
