Maintenance Technician

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION :

Ensure safety is the number 1 priority and will work safely in a plant environment.

Maintain cleanliness and integrity of production tooling and downstream, in addition to the tooling boards, and carts.

Work as part of a team to support the production lines with a focus on packaging and prep for shipping, operating, caring for, and maintaining the extrusion equipment, and improving the machines performance.

Cover production floor and lead op positions as needed.

Reports directly to the Production Supervisor / Production Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE :

  • Ensure tooling, downstream and co-extruder is in good condition and organized
  • Routinely check production lines downstream, tooling and extrusion machines
  • Prepare, set out and heat up tooling / downstream for changeovers on production lines
  • Assist with line changeovers, to include start up making sure pipe is in spec
  • To learn tooling for optimal product specification and quality
  • Make and replace gaskets as needed for spray tanks and vac plates
  • Make and maintain IPC filters
  • Routinely check encoder machines for operational defects
  • Maintain and organize tooling boards and print characters
  • Perform general clean-up and occasional custodial duties
  • Cut, stack, clean and process product for material recycling
  • Operate fork truck, man-lift, and other industrial vehicles
  • Operate various hand and power tools, Hydraulic saw, Chain saw, general tooling
  • Load machine hoppers with mixed materials
  • Set up and prepare co-extruders and mixed materials
  • Measure and examine extruded products for defects, and to check for quality conformance to specification
  • Reel extruded products into rolls of specified lengths
  • Report major process change to Production Supervisor
  • Package product and move to staging area for quality control inspection
  • Assist with unloading resin from the resin trucks as needed
  • Assist with Safety and Lean Manufacturing projects
  • Assist Maintenance Department
  • Assist with training of production new hires
  • Maintain and organize production supplies such as lumber, reels and related hardware, start- up pipe, regrind area, print line, banding
  • Performing other duties assigned by Production Supervisor or Production Manager
  • May be required to fulfill a 12hr shift including weekends / holidays

Job Requirements :

  • Preferred candidate has experience as a Maintenance Tech or Shift Supervisor
  • Preferred candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess basic math skills
  • Must possess basic mechanical skills
  • Ability to use and interpret precision instruments, tools, machinery and equipment
  • Must be able to work safely in a production environment
  • Must be physically capable of performing job related task and job duties
  • Must have good organizational skills-must be capable of determining priorities, manage time properly, and multi-task.
  • Must have ability to receive, understand and follow specific verbal and written instructions that will be given for various task
  • Work closely with various departments and co-workers within the facility
  • Must utilize work rest protocol established at assigned facility
  • Must have flexible schedule to accommodate line changes
  • Physical Demands :

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus and distinguish color.
  • Walk, sit, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, balance, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, and controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs or ladders.
  • Employee must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and / or ladders.
  • Ability to stand and walk 8-12 hours per day.
  • Ability to wear PPE, including, but not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses and steel toe footwear that meets ASTM F-2413-2005 standards while in required locations.
  • The employee will be required to : read, communicate verbally and in written form, remember and analyze certain information, and remember and understand certain instructions or guidelines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle, and feel and to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and inclement weather during shifts, excluding breaks.
  • Must be available “on Call”, as needed.
  • TRAINING :

  • The company provides training in safety, equipment operation, training requirements and specific IT responsibilities for Tooling Specialist II duties.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Data entry
  • Knowledgeable in assisting with any paperwork

  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Travel is not usually required. Travel to other cities or manufacturing facilities may be necessary for training or benchmarking purposes
