Position Summary: The Regulatory Specialist provides functional support and collaborative engagement to ensure regulatory compliance and product innovation across all Barr Brands. This role is responsible for maintaining product documentation, ensuring adherence to global and domestic regulatory requirements, and supporting cross-functional teams in product development and market expansion. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to grow their expertise in regulatory affairs within the consumer products, chemicals, and pesticide industries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain and update product documentation, compliance databases, and regulatory records to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
- Author, review, and amend high-quality Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in compliance with global regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, GHS, EPA, WHMIS, REACH).
- Ensure consumer and professional brand labels meet compliance requirements while remaining clear, accurate, and informative.
- Assist with import/export compliance, including information gathering, documentation, and product certification processes.
- Maintain EPA product registration files, monitor regulatory changes, and communicate updates to key stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Innovation Support
- Partner with R&D, Marketing, Operations, and Legal teams to integrate regulatory compliance into product development and innovation pipelines.
- Engage in new product development by providing regulatory guidance and ensuring compliance from concept through commercialization.
- Intake customer and distributor regulatory requests, providing timely, accurate, and collaborative responses.
- Support and enhance regulatory workflows and compliance processes through continuous improvement initiatives.
Regulatory Monitoring & Continuous Learning
- Stay informed on evolving regulatory requirements (EPA, FDA, OSHA, CPSC, FIFRA, REACH, etc.), assess potential business impact, and proactively communicate changes to internal teams.
- Foster a curiosity-driven growth mindset, continuously expanding regulatory expertise and contributing to a culture of compliance excellence.
- Participate in industry associations, training, and professional development to stay ahead of emerging regulatory trends and best practices.
Qualifications/Experience:
- 0-3 years of experience in Regulatory Affairs, preferably in consumer products, chemical regulatory compliance, or pesticides.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
- Strong familiarity with regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and compliance assurance processes; willingness to develop deep expertise.
- Experience with SDS authoring software (e.g., UL Wercs, 3E Generate) and ERP/data management systems (preferred).
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate regulatory information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:
- Must be able to work under pressure while maintaining a congenial work environment and disposition.
- Ability to analyze complex information and escalate legal and regulatory issues, when appropriate.
- Should be comfortable with shifting timelines.
- Typical office and warehouse environment with moderate noise level.
- Moderate supervision - supervisor is available to answer questions, handle unusual situations
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, hear and see for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
