The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and fostering a restorative healing experience for patients and their support systems. As an autonomous professional, the RN exercises authority, control, and accountability to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment: The RN conducts thorough and ongoing holistic nursing assessments, identifying current and potential problems to develop individualized plans of care that address needs and concerns.
- Patient Care/Discharge Planning: Nurses are accountable for coordinating care, collaborating with patients, support systems, and healthcare team members to meet present and discharge needs, and achieving identified outcomes.
- Teaching: The RN provides individualized, ongoing teaching to patients and support systems using current evidence-based practice, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.
- Communication: As a professional, the RN demonstrates mutual respect and collaboration when communicating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, utilizing effective communication skills to create high-performance teams.
- Treatment/Procedures: The RN performs all treatments and procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures, and patient care standards, collaborating with the MD and healthcare team.
- Documentation: The RN accurately documents pertinent patient information using the nursing process on required forms or fields/screens to ensure effective communication and excellent patient outcomes.
- Medication Administration: The RN provides all aspects of medication administration, assessment, monitoring, and evaluation, teaching patients and support systems about safe medication use and initiating referrals to Pharmacy as needed.
- Quality Performance and Improvement (QPI): The RN actively participates in QPI processes to achieve excellent patient outcomes and improved processes, contributing to a Culture of Patient Safety.
- Delegation and Development: The RN delegates patient care tasks to LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary personnel according to scope of practice, job description, individual competence, and patient needs, supervising and orienting co-workers from novice to expert.
Education:
- A graduate of an accredited school of nursing, currently licensed in the State of New York, or permittee.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in acute care settings.
Training/License:
- New York State Registered Nurse license required.
