Overview

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is seeking an On-Call Speech Pathologist in our Primary Care Clinic. Responsible for collaborating with an interdisciplinary health professional team in the Oral Cleft Clinic. This position will focus exclusively on providing clinical services. The speech pathologist will be part of a multidisciplinary health care team including physicians, nurses, dieticians, social workers, multiple subspecialists, as well as medical students and residents. The clinic serves as a resource for the region, providing multidisciplinary care and consultation for children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of genetic, congenital, and developmental disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Provides evaluation and treatment recommendations for children and adolescents with cleft lip/palate and other related conditions
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team case conferences
  • Document patient care and actions per clinic standard
  • Maintains CEUs required by license
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program required
  • Ability to use an Electronic Health Record

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current Michigan State licensure

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in EMR
  • Knowledge and proficiency in word processing and file management using Microsoft Office and other software as required by the department
  • Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interpret, comprehends, and transmits complicated and detailed instructions accurately
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision

Faculty in the Department of Pathology serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, faculty and administrative offices, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
